Waterford Surf Lifesaving is a strong, active branch of lifesaving organised by Waterford Water Safety, the Waterford Branch of Water Safety Ireland. Both Barrie and James voluntary give a lot of time helping with the coaching and organising of the club. The next competition for the club will be the Regional Nipper Championships in UL in March which Waterford is organising.
Barrie and James are also involved in the National Lifesaving squads. Barrie is part of the Munster regional nipper coaching team and helps with the running of camps throughout the year. James is a National Junior Team Coach and last year was with the Irish Team at the European Championships where they placed 5th overall and had their biggest ever medal count from a European Championships with 44 medals.
Chia Bia has been the title sponsor for Waterford Surf Lifesaving for the last 3 years and we are delighted to announce that we have renewed the agreement for a further 3 years as we continue to support the club and community. Our support helps with club purchasing important equipment to aid in the training of the club members in their lifesaving activities.
What is Surf Lifesaving Sport?
The Sport is an added component of Life Saving, helping lifeguards to challenge themselves to improve and perform. Lifesaving sport was primarily intended to encourage Lifesavers to develop, maintain and improve essential physical and mental skills needed to save lives in the aquatic environment. Lifesaving competitions consist of a variety of competitions to further develop and demonstrate lifesaving skills, fitness and motivation.
